The PDFs for detailed instructions and pictures to help you make your very own Christmas tree hat with ornaments and a star on top is available for immediate download after purchase. It has basic crochet stitches, uses a size I-9 hook and medium weight yarn. It is a forgiving pattern so missing a stitch or two wouldn't be noticeable.
-Supplies Needed-
Crochet hook I-9 (5.5mm) - highly recommend the ergonomic hooks
Yarn – Medium weight (about size 4) - I used “I Love This Yarn” and it works wonderfully for these hats every time!
~150-200 yards need for the tree
~66 ft for ornaments (each ornament takes about 2 ft of yarn)
~50 yds for the base of the tree (brown)
~40 yds for the star
Needle for sewing
Buttons, bells, puff balls, or other alternatives to the crocheted ornaments, if desired - some people have even put real lights on them – adorable!
-Notes-
Pattern is written in baby, child, average adult, and large adult sizes as follows and are displayed as newborn (baby, toddler, child, avg adult, lg adult) stitch counts within each step --
Newborn ~12-13” head circumference
Baby ~14-15” head circumference
Toddler ~16-17” head circumference
Child ~18-19” head circumference
Avg Adult ~20-21” head circumference
Lg Adult ~22-23”” head circumference
Gauge: 10 sc by 13 rows = 4” x 4” (an easier way I used to gauge this is 10 rows of the base = ~3”)
Yarn varies greatly and due to the way this pattern is worked up, gauge may vary slightly. I recommend checking the size once the trunk is finished, if able to, in order to verify sizing. The trunk should fit comfortably without much stretching - if it seems too tight, increase the hook size ~1mm or go up in size for the pattern
To make the trunk piece thinner, decrease the number of the initial chain.
Most importantly – don’t stress about perfection, this hat is forgiving!
If you have any questions or concerns as you make it, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I want to make sure everyone loves it! 😊🧶
